What is a B/L?
B/L stands for Bill of Lading. “A bill of lading is a document issued by a carrier, e.g. a ship's master or by a company's shipping department, acknowledging that specified goods have been received on board as cargo for conveyance to a named place for delivery to the consignee who is usually identified.”(Wikipedia)
What is Consignee?
“In a contract of carriage, the consignee is the person to whom the shipment is to be delivered whether by land, sea or air”(Wikipedia) In simple words, consignee is the importer of the vehicle. It can be a person, or a company. Normally, consignee is the party paying custom duties when custom-clearing the car. Consignee’s name, address and phone number will be printed in the B/L, so it is very important to provide us with correct consignee details. There have been cases when importers couldn’t release there vehicles from Customs Bonded Area because of a spelling miss in the consignee name. Before sending us the consignee details, please double check if everything is correct.
Can I change consignee after the issue of B/L?
As a rule, changes in the B/L are not accepted. Please be very careful when making a decision on the consignee. If you did make a mistake and you want to change the consignee please notify us immediately, at least 1 week BEFORE the vessel arrives to your port. After the vehicle is offloaded from the ship, no changes are accepted.
